Lovat Cave Chinn
The young Lovat Cave Chinn (b. 1905) played the role of Bernick/Halligan’s son, Olaf, in The Pillars of Society (1920). He went on to become a cameraman for later films e.g. Treasure Island (1950) and for newsreels and documentaries for Paramount. He was a founder member of the British Society of Cinematographers in 1949. A Wonderful picture of my father-in-law. My husband Bruce Cave-Chinn is the last surviving child of Lovat. Would love to know if there are anymore pictures of Lovat?

There is a picture of Lovat as a boy in a sailor suit in a film still for the Pillars of Society (1920) on my web page of Film stills – look for still 7 here https://anneramsden.wordpress.com/the-film-stills/. There are more pictures from the film including one of Lovat at the Ibsen.net website managed by the National Library of Norway at http://ibsen.net/index.gan?id=6062&subid=0. Have you tried the British Society of Cinematographers? Also, the British Film Institute has a photographic collection. Good luck with the research.

We have many pictures of Lovat, he worked as a war correspondent and then Movietone news, then later Mrs Minnifer and Tresure Island where films he was camera man on. I could go on! he was a well known man.

Have found some more information on Lovat Halket Cave Chinn born 25/8/1905 London died 1969 London married Vivienne Maude Slay 1931 children Bruce I. born 1932, Barrie A. born 1936, Roger Crispin Cave born 1939. His Step-father was the actor Aubrey W. Fitzgerald.
