Eve Gray was born as Fanny Evelyn Garrett in Handsworth, England. Her family emigrated to Australia in 1912. There she began her professional career as a photograpic model and then took to the stage. . From 1923 she took leading roles and returned to England where she continued successful her stage career.

In Europe she starred in a number of silent movies, most notably in Die Abenteuer GmbH – the first movie adaption of an Agatha Christie book. Other silent movies were One of the Best (1927), Moulin Rouge (1928), Smashing Through (1928) and Lockendes Gift (1929).

She was able to continue her career in the talkies until the end of the 1930’s.
